The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights, and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people.<\/p>\n

Since 1950, we have faced multiple crises on multiple continents, and provided vital assistance to refugees, asylum-seekers, internally displaced and stateless people, many of whom have nobody left to turn to.<\/p>\n

When an emergency hits and people are forced to flee their homes, UNHCR stands ready for rapid deployment across the world.
\nWe can launch an emergency operation within 72 hours and provide life-saving relief to people who have fled their homes and in search of safety. This lifesaving relief includes emergency shelter, medical care, psycho-social counselling, and core relief items.<\/p>\n

When forced displacement continues on for months or years, UNHCR works with partners to provide displaced children and youth access to education and youth services and activities to make sure that our younger generations are not caught in limbo or stranded when living in forced displacement. We also provide livelihoods and vocational resources, activities and training to help people forced to flee restart their lives and with support, become self-reliant.<\/p>\n

Our dedicated personnel work in 135 countries around the world, from major capitals to remote and often dangerous locations. Nearly 90 per cent of our workforce is based in the field, assisting the most vulnerable victims of displacement.<\/p>\n
