Ramadan 2025: The Power of Coming Together
As humanitarian emergencies escalated and the weight on vulnerable communities grew heavier, our Ramadan campaign reflected the profound impact of collective compassion. When communities come together in solidarity, hope is restored.
Thanks to the generosity of our donor community, more than 199,800 displaced individuals received essential support through Zakat and Sadaqah contributions. For many, Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection shadowed by uncertainty. Yet, your compassion helped carry them through – bringing not only material relief but also a sense of dignity, comfort, and reassurance during the holy month.
Zakat al-Fitr: Timely Support, Lasting Impact
Zakat al-Fitr holds deep significance for both those who give and those who receive. Guided by a fatwa from Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy, UNHCR ensured this sacred obligation was fulfilled in full compliance with Sharia and with respect for each family supported.
Thanks to the timely generosity of 803 donors, 2,019 eligible refugees received their Zakat al-Fitr as cash assistance on 28 and 29 March, just ahead of Eid. This allowed families to meet essential needs and celebrate Eid with peace of mind.
Matching Campaign: Doubling the Impact
To inspire giving during the last 10 days of Ramadan, UNHCR launched two 24-hour Zakat matching initiatives on 21 and 25 March. These were powered by four generous donors who pledged a combined $220,000 to match incoming contributions. On those two days, all donations were matched dollar for dollar, effectively doubling their impact. The campaign raised $273,590.62 from 146 donors, enabling even more displaced families to receive urgent support.
This initiative did more than raise funds – it strengthened solidarity, deepened donor engagement, and reinforced a shared commitment to supporting refugees during the holy month.
Dhul Hijjah & Eid Al Adha 2025: Compassion in the Face of Crisis
This Dhul Hijjah & Eid Al Adha, we honored the resilience of mothers, fathers, and children who continue to find joy despite unimaginable hardship. Amid severe global funding cuts threatening UNHCR’s support to millions, your generosity shone through.
In the blessed ten days of Dhul Hijjah, your Zakat and Sadaqah contributions reached 4,961 families across Yemen, Sudan, and Syria through cash assistance. For widows, children, and the elderly with no one else to turn to, your kindness brought comfort, dignity, and hope.
