UNHCR is following a 100% Zakat distribution policy.
UNHCR’s Refugee and IDP Zakat Fund is subject to rigorous governance, ensuring transparency at every step, from donation to distribution of Zakat.

The Refugee and IDP Zakat Fund is now available in Nigeria for Nigerians to support vulnerable forcibly displaced IDP families in northern Nigeria.
When you donate your Zakat, you can be rest assured that 100% of Zakat donation is distributed to the most vulnerable Nigeran IDP families in critical need of support.
Exceptionally for the Refugee and IDP Zakat Fund, UNHCR has waived its standard 6.5% indirect support costs, to ensure that 100% of your Zakat goes directly to the most vulnerable families.
Any expenses associated with the distribution of Zakat are covered by other sources of funding to UNHCR.
All Zakat received by UNHCR is strictly channeled through Zakat-compliant assistance programmes that complement other forms of aid provided by UNHCR. You can read how your Zakat has made a difference in our annual reports which you can find here.

Do you know...

Your Zakat can help save the lives of vulnerable forcibly displaced families in Nigeria?

Imagine one day you are forced to flee your home, but out of fear for your life and the lives of your family members. You have no time to pack your belongings. You and your family are left with nothing in search of safety. This is the reality of some 2.9 million Nigerians internally displaced within the country’s borders because of violence and conflict.

Nigerian IDP families are often headed by women alone who can face obstacles when looking for work. Providing them with relief items and livelihoods support helps prevent them from resorting to desperate survival strategies – such as pulling children out of school and child labour.
