Most refugees are poor and in need of support to survive; they lack assets or income in their long stays away from home, having limited ability to cover the basic needs of themselves and their families. Some refugees might have had a good source of income at home, but once forced to flee, most leave with no more than the clothes on their backs. And for those who were able to carry their savings with them, years in exile leave them with nothing left.
