UNHCR has launched its Islamic Philanthropy Mid-Year Report 2025, highlighting how Zakat and Sadaqah contributions have transformed lives during the first half of the year.
From January to June 2025, the Refugee Zakat Fund and Sadaqah initiatives helped more than 349,000 refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) across 21 countries, thanks to the generosity of 23 institutional partners and over 20,000 individual donors.
Together, they contributed $23.2 million in Zakat and Sadaqah — surpassing the total contributions of 2024.
This year also marked an expansion of impact, with Central African Republic and Botswana receiving Zakat and Sadaqah support for the first time. Since its launch in 2017, the Refugee Zakat Fund has reached over 9.2 million people in 33 countries.
During Ramadan alone, more than 199,800 displaced individuals received life-saving support through UNHCR’s global campaign, featuring partnerships with six influential voices including Mostafa Atef, Nouran Tarek El Sayed, and Omar Farooq, who documented the Sudanese displacement crisis from South Sudan.
The report also features inspiring messages from H.E. Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, and Dr. Wael Al Mahmeed, long-standing supporter of the Refugee Zakat Fund.
